Kirsten has
now completed two meeting in the car kindly loaned to us by the Swinton Car
Project. The car was delivered to the project on Sat 4/8/07 at Birmingham wheels
with the aim of allowing Kirsten some practice laps and for us to bring back up
North so we could make whatever minor mods were needed to get the car set for
Kirsten to race. The minor mods required were a little more than we envisaged!!!!
Initially the car was delivered with
a split OSF brake hose which was rectified at the track along with some other
minor issues such as loose odds and ends etc. More serious was the engine which
didn’t sound too great from the start but after a few laps lost oil pressure
ending the practice day.
Dave Wood of the Swinton Car project asked NFR to take a good look at the car
the week after and that’s when the fun really began. A crushed brake pipe was
found along the front of the chassis, the floor was cut out and re-fabricated to
allow the seat to be re-positioned, the seat itself was condemned and binned by
NFR as were the belts and the engine was removed and split for checking. By this
time the car was more or less back to a rolling chassis but Neil and Geoff
worked like Trojans throughout the early week to get the car done. The engine
needs, more or less, a rebuild including a crank grind so a donor engine was
quickly fitted along with all the other work so Kirsten could honour her debut
booking at Skegness.
